I've made several attempts to manifest some sort of Internet presence for decades. There weren't any technical or financial issues, but technology was not at the point that a fifteen minute work session would produce something worth publishing. It seems like there's a flood of free Internet success programs that offer just enough information to get you to pay for some package that inevitably ends up with monthly subscription payments. This information will be complete and free. I recommend against putting any money into this, until you start getting enough income from your efforts to pay for services, not advice
The biggest obstacle was the actual text entry, even if most of the formatting was taken care by a web authoring application. Substack makes a lot of the overhead of publishing automatic. It also offers easy hosting of audio files. No more ftp transfers or file .anger transfers.
For this series of articles, I'll recommend a free service that is easy to set up in very little time, at no initial cost and all manageable from a smart phone. You'll probably want to create an email account for your business, to keep everything separate.
If you've got access to the Internet, an email account and a smartphone, you have enough to get started. If you want to start a business, then you'll also need an idea for that. So first, I'll discuss the business I am going to start. Among other jobs, I used to teach electronics, and due to circumstances, I ended with eight straight hours of lecture, from 2PM to 10PM. I have plenty of speaking experience, so I'm going to offer voiceover for videos and narration for podcasts.
I like taking action as soon as possible, so if you're new, the quickest way to get an Internet presence that I'm aware of is carrd.co. My page there is amorphouswater.carrd co
Signup is free and it's easy to put up a link to your substack page or any other site, without any need to use any special software or learn HTML. The syntax is simple: [link text](link address). So, in my case, I'd want the hyperlink to display ‘amorphouswater substack’ and the link to be amorphouswater.substack.com, so I would add a line of text like this: [amorphouswater substack](amorphouswater.substack.co)
You can just pick a template and replace any text by clicking on it, and then entering something similar, only pointing to your site. Once you've done that, you've got an Internet presence. You can think of this one as similar to a business card. Put all your links and whatever contact information you feel is appropriate.
Well, that concludes the first step. If you have any questions, leave a comment. Take the first step. Most people give up too easily. The point of this is to keep things simple and avoid throwing money away.
